Superfood Spirulina

Superfood Spirulina

What if you could eat a superfood everyday knowing that it was reducing your cholesterol, improving your blood pressure, supporting your liver function, helping maintain eye health and many more amazing health benefits?

Well, Spirulina – a blue-green algae similar to a sea vegetables or seaweed – provides essential nutrients and hugely beneficial properties. It is produced mainly in Japan but also Mexico and the African continent.

So, what are all these amazing health benefits?  Well my research showed so many that there literally are too many to mention in this article, but here are a few that I think are worth noting:

  • Protection against cancer
  • Boosting immunity and helping to keep inflammation under control
  • Age related macular degeneration
  • Cardiovascular support especially lowering cholesterol and supporting hypertension
  • Liver health and protection
  • Reduces your risk of stroke

All of these conditions have been widely researched and there are many published journals that support these claims.

So how can you use Spirulina?  Spirulina comes in tablet form, powder and flakes. Personally I recommend using the powder form because you can add this easily to other foods such as mixing it with your morning breakfast yogurt or your smoothie.  Or how about adding a spoonful to your porridge or granola. You can also sprinkle the powder over salads or add it to soups.  If you prefer the convenience of tablets, then just take these according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.

What are the nutritional benefits in Spirulina?  Research shows that Spirulina is rich in protein (up to 50-60% is protein) and contains the essential amino acids to repair tissues, produce hormones and enzymes vital for health. There are also plenty of B Vitamins – B6, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin and folate as well as Vitamin E and Vitamin K.
